My research interests include Latina/o and Mexican theater, culture studies, film, and performance studies. It was my experiences living in Southern California and my travels abroad throughout Mexico and Central America that contributed to my particular interests in Latina/o and Mexican works. My interest in theater began as a young undergraduate when I was influenced by Juan Villegas at UC Irvine. I even enrolled in a few acting classes in order to develop a greater understanding of how theater is produced. Currently I am working on research in Latina/o and Mexican transborder plays and the performance of race in works by Luis Valdez, Milcha Sánchez-Scott, Hugo Salcedo, Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda, Cherrie Moraga, Nao Bustamante, and Coco Fusco. My future interests include theater by Elena Garro, Sabina Berman, and Lisa Loomer as well as some earlier works by Mexican female playwrights.

I believe it is important to bring my research into the classroom in order to explore ideas with my students and perhaps inspire them to pursue a similar area of interest. In my teaching, I hope to motivate my students to celebrate their diversity and to bring their experiences with them to share with others. Teaching gives me the opportunity to impart my knowledge to students and to incorporate their ideas into the classroom as well. I hope my students will develop a desire for excellence in whatever path they choose in life. As a professor, I realize the potential I have to influence my students, a potential that I take with utmost seriousness. I enjoy teaching and the chance it gives me to challenge young minds. In a way, I feel that I am contributing toward a better future.
