MM, Computer Music and New Media Technology, Northern Illinois University (in progress) BA, Music Technology, Mahidol University (Thailand)
Prior to coming to the US, I studied the Khim (Thai dulcimer), classical guitar and music composition in Thailand. Back when I was around 13, I heard a solo classical guitar piece called “Recuerdos de la Alhambra” composed by Francisco Tárrega. I thought it was played by two guitars! After I discovered that it is a solo piece, I began taking a serious lesson in classical guitar. And as a music major at the undergraduate level, my major instrument was the classical guitar.
However, I don't play any traditional instruments anymore. I am completing a Master's degree in Computer Music and New Media Technology at NIU. Currently, my research interests include: audio processing, sound synthesis, microtonal music, video tracking, sensors, human interface device and gestural control of interactive electronic art. In other words, I use devices such as video camera, Wiimote or any sensors to track (or extract the data from) the gestures of a performer (or dancer), and then transform (or map) these data into “interactive computer generated music/video/graphic.”
My Current Hobbies
When I am free from listening to music, making music, computer programming and doing academic works, I go outside for cycling (on ice and snow), and research the history of Moorish Spain and the Middle East. Other topics of interest are computer games, 3D virtual worlds and philosophical skepticism.
Unlike some universities in the US (and elsewhere in the world), at NIU, no unnecessary honor code that requires men to trim their hair above the collar leaving the ear uncovered.....bla...bla...bla... Googled “honor code hair length” and see! Thus, I enjoy studying at NIU and working at the Learning Center. I am happy to assist you and answer questions about the Learning Center’s resources.
