Every year, Northern Illinois University plays host to around 900 international students from over 90 countries. In addition, the University's Study Abroad Office works with more than 100 international universities and coordinates with 15 faculty directed programs in countries such as Brazil, Costa Rica, England, France, Ireland, Ghana, Italy, Russia and Spain. Last year in the International House (I-House) there were students from over 23 countries and more than 15 different language groups. Northern's global community is a model for international cooperation and programming. Although international student enrollment decreased both at the national and state levels, international enrollment increased at Northern by 1.5 percent.
International House is launching its Partners in International Education Program (PIE) for American students who want to room with an international student in Douglas Residence Hall's international wing (floors 3,4,5). Students will be paired according to their academic and personal interests. During the academic year, there will be a variety of special activities and events that will allow participants in the International Education Partners Program to expand and deepen their cultural horizons.
If you are interested in joining the Partners in International Education Program, an on-line form has been created for your convenience (see link below). We hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to connect with the world and have the world connect with you.
